SUCCESS SUCCESS...

...SUCCESS!

I mean, SUCCESS!

Thanks to some help from John I tamed the GIMP and was able to do better word bubbles than PhotoPaint 9 afforded me. Meanwhile the first panel of the next comic is done and I've been able to take a bit more time with it, since I have more than twenty-four hours until my Sunday evening deadline this time. Huzzah! Already the steady march of personal progress has begun.

But then.... who am I kidding? How can I ever compete with this?

Now to toss myself in bed and cross my fingers for the interview tomorrow. In that order.

Addendum: SHEESH! I thought .png's were the preferred file format for webcomics because they were smaller than jpg's....but converting from the latter to the former has more than doubled the file size. Sorry folks! I'll see about changing this later.

Some comments!

The bad.

First of all, you totally stole the term "hoins" from me. At the very least (this is the least that would be considered objectively acceptable) it was a delightful mutual creation. You see where I'm going with this? I am going to royalties.

Find a way of using a comic size that isn't either too small to read or far too big to fit into a maximized internet browser window!

Try not to steal (or perhaps the term is 'paraphrase') jokes you heard before - such as the line from an Andre 5000 song? Come on you knew I'd find that. You knew this.

The good.

Actually, aside from my nitpicking it seems like a solid comic. But then, I'm not so much an arbiter of good taste as I am an arbiter of tastes that are similar to Oliver's and hey we are also friends so there might be some form of correlation here.

Panel six was my favourite. I've seen sarcasm beaten into submission by bad people but dry wit is an underappreciated resource. At least, it is here in the Canadas.

And I do look forward to seeing more, which is also a good sign?

But seriously, dude.

Here's the thing. This is the thing.

Royalties.

You are a crazy man, a man who is crazy. Hoins was a MaClean/Brackenbury co-production!

As for Andre 3000, I honestly haven't the foggiest idea to what you are referring. I re-read it, hunting for such things as I might have unconsciously projected from listening to his solo album (which, sadly, got lost just before I got my iPod)...but nothing! What was it?

As for the size, I totally dig it. I think there is a trick I need to learn which I simply don't know yet. There is one comic at www.somethingpositive.net which uses 13.5 sized font that is much smaller than my lettering and perfectly legible - yet I used size 12, gosh durn it! More on this later...

The graphic size is about what size you resample it to in pixels not the font size.
I suggest narrow the blue side border of the whole page and make the graphic at least 600 wide, save as a gif too and remember to pick the colour for transparency, in this case white.

Oh yes Shawn should make his own Glory page and quit whining :-))

I will make a blog where I talk about how fantastic I am! And why no one appreciates this enough.

I thought it was an Andre 3000 lyric, but I could be wrong. The bit about touching someone in places no doctor has ever found?

I agree with everything Shawn said. Everything.

Beating sarcasm makes you bad people.

I didn't write that by mistake!
