Man I wish it had been a translation issue, but it wasn't. The guys was just one of many people I've met, not just in film with surprising numbers in that niche anyways, who are addicted to text message shorthand which is itself a kind of bastard child of internet shorthand and it's cousin, l33t speak.
Generally you can count on these people not to be very good listeners and to exhibit ADD symptoms.

I was reading a comic with Mr. Nick Fury recently, and while entirely too aggravated he clenched his teeth and it said only this in the word bubble:
