The Hovering Flame Orb has wreaked vengeance upon me

For a day I spent mostly in the British Library, happily enjoying no longer having my mind smeared across the pavement by Writers Block, I seem to be sunstroked and burnt!

Yet I wore clothes and everything!

More coherent and interesting thoughts later, when I've had eighteen gallons of water (or so).

For now, enjoy this video blog by a fellow named Pat Condell. Shawn introduced me to him with the dubious suggestion that he could very well resemble what I'll be like at 57. I was skeptical at first, mostly due to Shawn's squinty ears and prehensile tail - but I carried on and watched a few of this comedians videos. Below is a good sample - don't worry, he doesn't give any particular religion slack...it's just that the way the news is in England, this video felt pretty relevant.

The bit about faith being a form of mental illness is what really struck me.

His site is fun too:

On religious beliefs and war: "By the way, welcome to the 21st century – the bright new tomorrow of yesteryear, or the fossilised old yesterday of today?"

He says that religion in the UK was dormant until the Islams came around, but weren't there big fights in Ireland about religion a while back?

And how!

I'm with you Alex, that was the one statement in the video which made me sort of squint and say "Now hang on a minute...".

The only explanation I can think of is that he was speaking strictly of England - not Great Britain (which includes Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in much the same way Canada has it's provinces). I'm leaning towards that because I have a hard time believing that someone his age could forget about the Irish troubles which filled British news for well on 35 years.

I gotta say Mo, after looking at your own site I'm not sure what tone to read your comment in! But thanks for coming by, I assure you that I wasn't trying to pick on Muslims any more than any other religion.

But you seem a fellow who is well read on world affairs as they relate to the Muslim community and so you can understand why, at the moment, I'd choose this routine of Pat Camdell's instead of one of the ones where he takes the piss out of, say, Roman Catholics.
